1. You are probably doing better than you think.

  • If you look back to the past year you’ll very likely realize you accomplished outstanding results in whatever goals you pursued. Besides this, the fact that you are here for this new year is a clear sign you are doing better than you think you are. Be grateful for another opportunity to be here — it means you are already winning!

2. You are surrounded by people who love you — cherish it.

  • There are millions of other people who would do anything to have another minute with their loved ones — it is almost a moral duty to enjoy them as much as you can. Realize that you are surrounded by people who love you unconditionally, something that is extremely rare to have.

3. Time Is Your Real Treasure.

  • Contrary to belief, money is not the real treasure — Your Time is. We have created an almost absurd system where we work 40 years climbing a career ladder to get to our 60s, retire, and enjoy our free time. Instead, realize the power you have now — and the wealth you carry — if you have free time. Make this a priority for this year.

4. Do at least one activity for the enjoyment of the activity itself.

  • Most of times we get too caught up in doing activities because they have an end goal in sight, but when is the last time you did something just for the sake of doing it? I invite you to explore Kieran Setiya’s idea on “atelic” activities (things we enjoy for their own sake) vs. “telic” activities (goal-driven projects that leave us unsatisfied in the present).
  • Ask yourself, how many activities you do for an end goal vs. doing them for their own enjoyment?

5. You should say what you mean to say — your words build your reality.

  • It is said that God created reality through his word. We too have the power to build our world through the words we use — choose them wisely, but be sure to express what you mean to express in its most truthful way.

6. You should examine your mind — your thoughts create your reality.

  • We are entering one of the most dynamic moments in recent history, the only way to thrive is to examine your operating system — your thoughts. By having a deeper understanding of your mind, your thoughts, and your “default state,” you can unlock the true power of your mind.
  • Naval Ravikant shared a great concept that has stayed with me until today: your mind works as an email inbox that contains countless unread messages. A powerful tool to read these messages without getting entangled within them is meditation: try to examine these “messages” and slowly get your inbox to reach zero unread messages — which will declutter your mind and open up your potential.

7. Success is a byproduct of the love you invest in your craft — make sure your sights are locked into your craft and not the success of it.

  • Success should always be a byproduct, not an end in and of itself. By committing to your craft and pouring love into it, success — in whatever form — will surely follow. The problem is we get obsessed with “success metrics” and become blinded by shiny objects instead of truly diving deep into your craft, which will ultimately lead to a more powerful outcome without it being the initial goal.

I wish these realizations make 2023 your best year ever!
